About

The hotel stands in the historic heart of Kortrijk, a city many Belgians drive past far too quickly on their way to France. Inside, however, the outside world disappears almost immediately. Heavy curtains, glowing fireplaces, dark wood, antiques, deep carpets and candlelit salons create the atmosphere of an old Flemish residence owned by a collector with both money and very specific opinions about upholstery. Its name comes from Wenceslas Cobergher, the seventeenth century Renaissance figure who served the Archdukes Albert and Isabella. Architect, engineer, economist, painter, financial reformer… apparently choosing one profession felt limiting. He helped introduce the Mont de Piété system to the Southern Netherlands, designed churches and public buildings, and embodied the kind of intellectual ambition that modern LinkedIn profiles can only dream of. That spirit quietly runs through the hotel. The rooms avoid minimalist trends entirely and lean into comfort with confidence. Some suites feel closer to private apartments than hotel rooms, with towering ceilings, thick fabrics and enough atmosphere to make you consider ordering a second nightcap purely for architectural reasons. The experience is unapologetically rich. Travelers looking for clean lined contemporary Belgian design may find it excessive. Others will adore the fact that it dares to create a complete world instead of another interchangeable luxury interior in beige tones. Late evening suits the hotel best. After dinner, Kortrijk becomes calm, almost intimate, and returning to Cobergher through the quiet streets feels wonderfully old fashioned in the best possible way.
