Four Seasons Cartagena
A Rather Unconventional Four Seasons
- A convent meets a grand social club.
- Centuries of Cartagena's architecture.
- Rooftop pools above lively Getsemaní.
- €500–16,000 / night
- 131 rooms
- Getsemaní
Few hotels come with quite as complicated a family tree as Four Seasons Cartagena. A 16th century Franciscan convent, a grand social club from the 1920s and several former theatres have been brought together in Getsemaní, each retaining something of its previous life.
The former Club Cartagena makes a suitably theatrical entrance, with a sweeping staircase, marble floors and a soaring glass atrium. Venture further and the mood changes. Shaded cloisters, thick stone walls and intimate courtyards replace grandeur with a quieter, more contemplative atmosphere. The late French decorator François Catroux helped shape the interiors, complemented by Colombian art and craftsmanship. Of the 131 rooms and suites, only 27 occupy the historic buildings, a distinction worth remembering when booking.
Outside, Getsemaní has a personality all its own. Once home to artisans and dockworkers, and a centre of Cartagena’s independence movement in 1811, the neighbourhood remains wonderfully lively. Street art, neighbourhood cafés and animated squares offer a different rhythm from the polished colonial centre, just a short walk away.
Back at the hotel, two rooftop pools offer views across the city, while El Aljibe serves cocktails in a former water cistern. Some buildings have rather enviable second careers.
This is a substantial luxury hotel in an energetic neighbourhood, rather than an intimate sanctuary. Come for the remarkable architecture, the layers of history and the pleasure of being right in the middle of Cartagena.

The Flânons choice
Which room would we choose?
Grand Premier Colonial Room — the most rewarding balance of the hotel’s 16th-century character and everyday comfort. In the Cloister Building, these 52–57 m² rooms have high ceilings, daylight and views across the tropical courtyard, so you experience the historic heart of the hotel rather than simply visiting it. For a special occasion, the Colonial Studio Suite is a memorable step up, with a preserved fresco in its bathroom and a freestanding tub.

Do not assume every room occupies a historic building: the property also has contemporary accommodation. The entry-level Colonial Room is windowless, despite its generous floor area. If fresh air matters, request a terrace-equipped contemporary room; if heritage matters, ask specifically for a Cloister room with daylight. Suites and special categories have very different layouts, and few rooms accommodate three adults without prior approval.

- Check-in & check-out
- Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 12:00
- Parking
- No on-site parking or valet service. The concierge can advise on nearby self-parking; contact the hotel before arriving by car.
- EV charging
- No on-site parking is offered, and dedicated hotel EV charging could not be verified. Ask the concierge for an appropriate nearby charging facility.
- Getting around
- The Walled City and Getsemaní are best explored on foot. For airport arrival, use a taxi or arrange a private transfer; a convenient public-transport route to the hotel has not been independently confirmed.
- Arriving
- The hotel stands at Media Luna 8B #8B-44, opposite the Cartagena Convention Centre. Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) is around 5.5 km away; Four Seasons estimates 15 minutes by car, traffic permitting. Ask the concierge to arrange a transfer. On-site valet parking is not offered.
- Pets
- Pets are accepted subject to conditions. Major booking sites publish different maximum permitted weights (approximately 7 kg versus 15 kg); confirm your pet’s eligibility, the applicable limit and restricted areas directly with the hotel before booking.
- Accessibility
- The hotel lists Accessible Superior and Accessible Premier Rooms, both in the Contemporary Building, with roll-in showers and grab bars. Lifts are available. Because the property combines several historic buildings and level changes, request confirmation of a suitable step-free route for the specific room and facilities you intend to use.
- Travelling with children
- Children of all ages are welcome. The Four Seasons family policy generally allows children aged 18 or under to share their parents’ room without an added room charge where occupancy permits. Actual occupancy varies by room category; cribs and connecting rooms should be confirmed with reservations. Babysitting is available by arrangement, normally at extra charge.
- Dietary options
- Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free, Dairy free, and Halal
Worth knowing
- This is a lively city hotel in Getsemaní, with busy neighbourhood streets and a social dining scene. Request a room facing an internal courtyard if quiet matters.
- Room location deserves attention: historic Cloister accommodation and the Contemporary Building differ substantially in character. The standard Colonial Room is windowless.
- No on-site parking or valet parking. If arriving by car, obtain nearby self-parking directions from the concierge in advance.
- Breakfast is included in several published packages, but not necessarily in every room-only rate. Verify the inclusions before paying; the hotel also offers non-refundable advance-purchase rates.
- UMARI is an adults-only spa. Its policy excludes guests aged 16 and under from massage and body treatments; guests aged 17–18 require a signed waiver. Book treatments in advance.
- The nightly EUR budget fields are indicative endpoints, not a guaranteed live quote. They reflect observed standard-room starting rates and the exceptional top-tier Catroux Suite, which is far more expensive than ordinary rooms. Dates, taxes, currency movements and packages can materially change prices.
- Pet admission and maximum weight are inconsistently reported by third-party booking sites. Confirm the conditions directly with Four Seasons.
- The property is close to the Walled City, but Cartagena is hot and humid. A room with a private outdoor space is a considered alternative to the historic cloister accommodation.
