Hotel Flora

Location & practical

Where Antwerp’s Old Walls Get Bold

  • Seven individually designed suites in former merchant houses
  • Gert Voorjans interiors and murals painted directly onto walls and ceilings by Nils Verkaeren
  • Rococo gatehouse, Chinese pagoda and a planted courtyard in central Antwerp
  • One MICHELIN Key in the 2026 Benelux hotel selection
  • 7 rooms
  • Historic centre

For an address once called ‘King of Spain’, Hotel Flora has little interest in announcing itself. A dark door on Korte Nieuwstraat leads through a planted passage to a garden hidden behind Antwerp's old streets. The property's oldest traces date to 1445, and the Moretus printing family once lived here. Its Rococo gate tells you that later generations also left their mark.

Gert Voorjans has continued the tradition with considerably more colour. Striped headboards, emerald curtains and terracotta walls sit beneath old roof beams. Painter Nils Verkaeren worked directly on the walls and ceilings; in Aquamarine, his painting travels from the bathroom into the bedroom. Antwerp being Antwerp, the seven suites are named for gemstones. Ask for Agate if you want windows onto the garden, a fireplace painted with golden rain and access to the Chinese pagoda. Choose Aquamarine if a bath beneath a painted ceiling appeals more.

Breakfast can be taken by the garden, while the salon invites a drink later on. There is no restaurant for dinner, though the cathedral and old centre are an easy walk away. Flora has the scale of a private house and a design scheme with opinions. Leave enough time to enjoy your room before heading out.

The Flânons choice

Which room would we choose?

Choose Agate for the most distinctive combination of garden view, painted fireplace and pagoda access. Choose Aquamarine if a bath and a painted ceiling matter more.

Worth knowing

  • Pets are excluded except assistance dogs for people with disabilities; confirm arrangements directly with the hotel.
  • There is no hotel restaurant for dinner. Reserve a restaurant in Antwerp if your evening plans depend on a particular table.
  • Driving guests should plan for a public garage. The hotel lists Q-Park Handelsbeurs about 190 m away and Interparking Meir about 240 m away.
  • Rooms differ substantially in size, outlook, stairs and bathing facilities. Book a named suite rather than assuming every room has a garden view or bath.

  • Direct booking conditions list check-in from 14:00, standard check-out at 11:00 and late check-out until 12:00 only if available. Third-party booking terms may differ.
  • Breakfast is included in the hotel's own published rates. Confirm the details of any third-party offer and discuss dietary needs in advance.
