QC Spa Bagni Vecchi
High above Bormio, Bagni Vecchi starts with warm thermal water, cold mountain air and a wide view over the valley. In winter, steam drifts across the panoramic pool while snow settles on the surrounding forest. Its character comes from the way the spa has grown over centuries. Older bathing spaces, rock cut passages and the San Martino sweat cave bring the mountain itself into the experience, close to where the thermal water emerges naturally hot. Leonardo da Vinci mentioned Bormio’s baths in the Codex Atlanticus, a useful reminder of how long these waters have shaped the place.
The famous outdoor basin is not frozen in time. Cut into the rock, it was transformed into an infinity pool in 2017, and QC’s contemporary wellness operation is clearly present throughout. That polish may lessen the sense of historic intimacy at busy times, but the underlying setting remains distinctive. Four or five hours gives enough time to move through the different spaces without reducing the visit to a quick circuit.
